Another reason why mortgage rates may be headed higher

In addition to the economic and market reasons to believe that home loan interest rates are at an historic low and not likely to stay there long, there are practical pressures at work. Well, in Econ 101, they would tell you this is an economic reason, too: Mortgage lenders have more business than they can handle -- at least on a timely basis.

When home loan lenders are getting more applications than they can process with existing staff, they raise mortgage rates and closing costs in order to slow things down.

I'm working with four different lending sources right now on four different home sales transactions that were supposed to close either this week, last week, or next week. All are behind schedule. This is very frustrating for me as the real estate agent trying to do the best I can for my clients. It's of course maddening for the clients. I believe the lenders are doing the best they can -- at least most of their representatives and employees are. There is just too much to do. New regulations to prevent fraud and ill-advised loans are slowing the entire process down.

Now, enough blogging for me and back to being the squeaky wheel for my clients! Loan processors look out.
