The Arboretum at Flagstaff opens its doors for FREE this Saturday to celebrate Arbor Day

Nearly every week there is something worth doing at <a title="The Arboretum at Flagstaff" href="http://thearb.org/" target="_blank">The Arboretum at Flagstaff</a>. But this weekend is truly a special one: <a title="Arbor Day at Flagstaff's Arboretum" href="http://thearb.org/arbor_day1.htm" target="_blank">Arbor Day – A Celebration of Trees</a>.  Flagstaff got its start as a logging community in the 19th Century, so it is fitting that in the 20th Century <a title="Frances McAllister and The Arboretum at Flagstaff" href="http://thearb.org/our_history.htm" target="_blank">one of Flagstaff’s great women</a> contributed the land and an endowment to create The Arboretum at Flagstaff to celebrate trees and other botanical wonders of the Flagstaff area. Each day from now through October, at noon and 2 p.m., hawks, owls, falcons and other raptors take flight under the guidance of their keepers from <a title="High Country Raptors website in Flagstaff" href="http://www.highcountryraptors.com/index.html" target="_blank">High Country Raptors</a>.  Usually, there is a small admission charge for the demonstrations, but they are part of the free Arbor Day activities tomorrow. I had the opportunity to see one of the live raptor demonstrations at a meeting of the <a title="Website of the Flagstaff Exchange Club" href="http://flagstaffexchangeclub.com/" target="_blank">Flagstaff Exchange Club</a>.
