Things to do in Flagstaff this Holiday Weekend

This is the holiday weekend to spend snuggled in with family and friends. For those who want to venture out in and around Flagstaff, there are lots of things to do from visiting our nicely decorated historic downtown to last minute shopping at the newly expanded Flagstaff Mall (<a title="New Route to Flagstaff Mall" href="public/blog/191067" target="_blank">for traffic tips, click here</a>). Here are a few more ideas for fun in Flagstaff this holiday weekend:Saturday night, December 22, is the last chance to catch the <a title="Theatrikos Theatre Company in Flagtaff AZ" href="http://www.theatrikos.com/" target="_blank">Theatrikos Theatre Company</a> performance of the Charles Dickens classic “A Christmas Carol.” The performance begins at  8 p.m. at the Doris Harper White Community Theatre in downtown Flagstaff. <a title="Tickets for Theatrikos" href="http://www.theatrikos.com/ticketshome.html" target="_blank">Click here for ticket and seating information</a>.The last of the series “Holiday Skies Program” happens atop Mars Hill at <a title="Lowell Observatory" href="http://www.lowell.edu/outreach/index.php" target="_blank">Lowell Observatory</a> tonight, December 22,  from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. presentation discusses the mythology and science of the winter sky, including a discussion of the Star of Bethlehem. Lowell will continue to celebrate the holidays the week following Christmas with a new program: "Holiday Starfest", running form December 26-December 30. Telescopes will be available for viewing during evenings.For more ground based viewing, Flagstaff residents and visitors may drive or stroll by the luminaries presented by residents of the <a title="Coconino Estates Neighborhood in Flagstaff AZ" href="public/item/192401" target="_blank">Coconino Estates neighborhood</a>, on the northwest side of town.On the south-central side of Flagstaff, stroll through the light show at <a href="http://www.littleamerica.com/flagstaff/holiday_festival.html">Little America Hotel.  Over one million lights</a> are displayed on the natural trees on the Little America landscape. <a title="Map to Little America Hotel in Flagstaff, AZ" href="http://www.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=Little+America&fb=1&near=Flagstaff,+AZ&cd=1&ie=UTF8&z=14&om=1" target="_blank">Click here for a map to Little America in Flagstaff</a>. On the west side, <a title="Riordan Mansion Arizona State Park in Flagstaff" href="http://www.azstateparks.com/Parks/parkhtml/riordan.html" target="_blank">Riordan Mansion State Park</a> is decorated for the holidays and open every day for tours with historic information about Flagstaff’s early citizens. If you are a downhill skier, there is plenty of snow at Arizona Snowbowl just north of Flagstaff, but the winds have shut down the lifts, temporarily, so check out the <a href="http://www.arizonasnowbowl.com/winter/snow_report.html">Snowbowl website’s snow report</a> before heading up the mountain. The National Forest Service snow play areas northwest of Flagstaff are open for fun at <a title="Snowplay Arizona's site for Wing Mountain area" href="http://www.snowplayaz.com/" target="_blank">Wing Mountain</a>,  <a title="Crowley Pit snow play area north of Flagstaff" href="http://www.flagstaffnordiccenter.com/snowplay.php" target="_blank">Crowley Pit</a>, and Walker Lake (also known as the Kendrick Park Watchable Wildlife Area), as is the <a title="Flagstaff Nordic Center info" href="http://www.flagstaffnordiccenter.com/" target="_blank">Flagstaff Nordic Center</a>.
