Meet Santa, Ski, Theatre, Skating and Luminaries Display ~ All in Flagstaff!

If you are a downhill skier, the place to be this weekend is <a title="Arizona Snowbowl snow conditions report" href="http://www.arizonasnowbowl.com/winter/snow_report.html" target="_blank">Arizona Snowbowl --- the ski conditions are “the best in years.” </a> Here are a few things for the rest of us: The <a title="Flagstaff Nordic Center" href="http://www.flagstaffnordiccenter.com/" target="_blank">Flagstaff Nordic Center</a> is open for cross-country skiing on groomed trails, snowshoeing, and snow play. The <a href="http://www.snowplayaz.com/">Wing Mountain Snowplay</a> forest service area is also open for fun in the snow, including sledding, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and just plain playing in the snow. Santa is coming to Flagstaff to take orders this weekend. <a href="public/item/192480">Click here for a list of predicted appearances.</a>  The residents of several northwest Flagstaff neighborhoods, commonly known as <a title="Focus on Coconino Estates neighborhood in Flagstaff AZ" href="public/item/192401" target="_blank">Coconino Estates</a>, will present the Flagstaff community with a lovely luminaries display beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 16. There are two ways to see the annual display – on foot or by driving by. Both are free (except for your gasoline expense if you drive). Local streets will be closed in the Coconino Estates neighborhood. Guests enter at the Bonito and Thorpe intersection and proceed north on Navajo Road from the Marshall Magnet School area. Traffic is one-way. If you wish to walk it, the light hike is about 3 miles and you should bring a flashlight. Bundle-up even if you drive, because you’ll want to roll down your windows to hear the carolers. If you missed the <a title="FSO performance of Nutcracker Suite" href="http://www.flagstaffsymphony.org/prognotes.php?w=tchaikovsky_nutcracker&c=concert.php?c=3" target="_blank">Flagstaff Symphony and NAU Prep Dancer performance</a> of the Nutcracker earlier this season, this weekend presents four more opportunities to <img alt="Canyon Movement Company Nutcracker Poster" hspace="3" src="http://annheitland.smugmug.com/photos/232233996-S.jpg" align="left" vspace="3" border="0" />experience this holiday musical event, with a modern twist. Canyon Movement Company will present its fourth annual <a title="Canyon Movement Company Nutcracker-inspired performance" href="http://www.canyonmovementcompany.org/events.html" target="_blank">Nutcracker Suite in Modern Bare Feet - a 21st Century Interpretation of the Holiday Classic</a>, featuring guest artists and choreographers from the Flagstaff community. Performances are December 13, 14, 15, 7:30 p.m., 2:00 matinee on the 15th at Northern Arizona University’s Clifford E. White Theater. Tickets are $16/general, $9/child-student.
