Fun Things to Do in Around the Flagstaff Community This Weekend

There will be plenty to do, inside and out, in Flagstaff this weekend, so don’t let the weather deter you from having lots of fun. Here are a few ideas:<a title="Theatrikos Theatre Company in Flagstaff AZ" href="http://www.theatrikos.com/" target="_blank">Theatrikos Theatre Company</a> presents the Charles Dickens classic A Christmas Carol at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and at a 2 p.m. matinee on Saturday afternoon. Performances are at the Doris Harper White Community Theatre in downtown Flagstaff. <a title="Theatrikos Ticket Info" href="http://www.theatrikos.com/ticketshome.html" target="_blank">Click here for ticket and seating information</a>.  By the way, did you know that the full title of Dickens’ book is <a title="History of Dickens' A Christmas Carol" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Christmas_Carol" target="_blank">A Christmas Carol in Prose, Being A Ghost Story of Christmas</a>?   Friday night and Saturday nights, Lowell Observatory’s Holiday Skies presentations continue atop Mars Hill in Flagstaff. <a title="Lowell Observatory Holiday Skies presentations Dec 2007" href="public/item/190484" target="_blank">Click here for details</a>. If the predicted rain/snow turns to snow as darkness falls on Saturday night, the <img height="86" alt="Photo of past Flagstaff Holiday Lights Parade" hspace="4" src="http://annheitland.smugmug.com/photos/229458851-S.gif" width="127" align="left" vspace="4" border="1" />highlight of the weekend could be the Northern Lights Holiday Parade, scheduled for 6 p.m. in downtown Flagstaff. Shining Bright with Holiday Lights will be the theme for the annual parade sponsored by APS and the Flagstaff Chamber of Commerce. This spectacular electric parade begins at corner of Beaver and Elm. The parade marches south to Aspen, and continues east past a reviewing stand at <a title="Flagstaff's Heritage Square" href="http://www.heritagesquaretrust.org/history/history.html" target="_blank">Heritage Square</a>.Two Holiday Concerts, Christmas in the Mountains, at Ardrey Auditorium on the NAU Campus, the Master Chorale of Flagstaff, the Children’s Chorale of Flagstaff, and Harold M. Harter Memorial Handbell Choir, with full orchestral accompaniment, will perform a holiday concert beginning at 7:30 p.m. Friday & 3:00 p.m Sunday. Tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for children. This concert is some of what the wonderful <a href="http://www.cal.nau.edu/music/">Northern Arizona University Music Department</a> offers to Flagstaff’s community all year round.Also, the <a title="Riordan Mansion State Park website" href="http://www.pr.state.az.us/Parks/parkhtml/riordan.html" target="_blank">Riordan Mansion</a> (an Arizona State Park) is festively decorated with wreaths, garlands, greenery and a towering fir tree trimmed with old-fashioned ornaments. Guided tours are available every day between between 12/4/2007 & 12/31/2007. The tours include glimpses of folklore and traditions of Christmas in Flagstaff and elsewhere.
