County will host 8th “Neighborhood Watch” meeting at Cromer Elementary School

Two Coconino County officials – Supervisor Deb Hill and Sheriff Bill Pribil have been hosting “Neighborhood Watch” programs in the <a title="Info on the Northeast Rural area of Flagstaff AZ" href="public/blog/181368" target="_blank">Northeast Rural area of Flagstaff</a> for the last seven months and will continue to do so, with the eighth meeting this Thursday evening, December 6, 2007. Neighborhood Watch is similar to the Block Watch program commonly conducted in urban areas, and is based on the concept of “neighbors looking out for neighbors.” <a title="Wikopedia history info" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Block_watch" target="_blank">It builds on the concept of “town watch” used in Colonial American, and was energized nationally in the 1960s</a>. Neighborhood Watch and Block Watch have been shown to be one of the most effective ways to prevent and deter criminal activity, attend to home and personal security, address the safety of our children and the elderly, and to alleviate fear and isolation.  During meetings, residents learn how to observe and report suspicious activity and reduce the risk of becoming crime victims. By meeting regularly, residents learn to know their neighbors, which promotes neighborhood safety.
