At least two! -- The Flagstaff Independent Business Alliance and the Flagstaff Chamber of Commerce

The Flagstaff Independent Business Alliance (FIBA) is a coalition of locally-owned, independent businesses and community members working together to further develop the economic vitality of Flagstaff while enhancing and preserving Flagstaff’s unique character. FIBA is part of the American Independent Business Alliance. (AMIBA) The Flagstaff association offers educational and networking events throughout the year. <a href="http://flagstaffiba.com/Mission.htm">Here is a link to FIBA’s website.</a>In addition, the national Chamber of Commerce has a long-established branch in the <a title="Flagstaff Chamber of Commerce" href="http://www.flagstaffchamber.com/" target="_blank">Flagstaff Chamber of Commerce</a>. The Chamber’s goals include promotion of Flagstaff business development. Why two organizations? Although neither organization espouses political action as a major part of its mission, the Chamber’s endorsement of political candidates and issues is often out-of-step with the liberal/progressive political <a title="Definition of bent, when used as a noun!" href="http://unabridged.merriam-webster.com/cgi-bin/unabridged" target="_blank">bent</a> of the Flagstaff community. As a result, and because of high membership fees and the dominance of large business organizations, some smaller, local businesses were dissatisfied with their Chamber membership and formed FIBA. The Flagstaff Independent Business Alliance hosts monthly networking and skills workshops. The next meeting is hosted by Tina Sutton of <a title="Flagstaff real estate agents' website" href="http://bestflagstaffhomes.com/" target="_blank">Team Heitland of RE/MAX Peak Properties</a> at our office, 717 W. Riordan Road, in Flagstaff.
