Public meetings will be held on future plans for Flagstaff's Mountain Line and Coconino County Parks

Two aspects of the quality of life in Flagstaff will be open for public comment tomorrow and Wednesday. For concerned Flagstaff residents, here is the information on meetings regarding the future of public transportation in the Flagstaff and Sedona areas and on County park development in Coconino County.

Mountain Line is the City of Flagstaff bus service, providing frequent transport around the city and in coordination with Northern Arizona University, on the campus of NAU. A Citizens Review Commission has held several meetings and will be providing Flagstaff City Council with recommendations on the future of transit service in Flagstaff. This is an opportunity for the community to provide input on these recommendations.

Representatives from Mountain Line and the Citizens Commission will be on hand during the open house to:

discuss the history and the proposed future of Mountain Line,

gather citizens' thoughts and suggestions about how Mountain Line should grow, and

answer any questions regarding the current system.

The open house will be held at Flagstaff City Hall (corner of Aspen and Humphrey St.) from 4:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, October 23rd. Light refreshments will be served during the event.

For route or further information on Mountain Line, Mountain Lift or the Sedona RoadRunner, please call the Northern Arizona Intergovernmental Public Transportation Authority (NAIPTA) offices at 928-679-8900. Routes and schedules are also available at that website.

_____________________________

Coconino County Parks & Recreation is holding a series of public meetings throughout the County seeking input from the public about the purpose, goals, funding, and organization of our county parks & recreation system. The department is working to protect key open space lands around Flagstaff and throughout Coconino County as well as working to develop and maintain parks throughout the county. Places like Walnut Canyon, Observatory Mesa, and Rogers Lake will be considered as part of the planning process.

Input from these Public Meetings will be used to shape the Coconino County Parks and Recreation Master Plan, which is scheduled to be completed by July 2008. The County has hired a parks and recreation consulting company to develop the master plan by integrating information about the values and priorities in our communities as reflected, in part, from these public meetings.

The one meeting in Flagstaff is Wednesday, October 24, 2007, from 6 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the NAU School of Forestry Auditorium, S. Pine Knoll Drive (south campus).
