Here Is a Small Selection of What's Happening in Flagstaff This Weekend, Including a Tour of Solar Homes

This could be the perfect Flagstaff weekend to hike in the San Francisco Peaks. The leaves are beginning to turn. Flagstaff temperature highs will be in the sixties (lower sixties Saturday, higher on Sunday) and the sun will be out fully on Sunday. I’m beginning to see the trees change toward the top of the Peaks where it’s cooler at night. One way to enjoy the fall colors in Flagstaff would be to join the Hart Prairie Guided Nature Walk on Saturday (details below). One event that I plan to take in this weekend is the opening concert in the Northern Arizona University choral series: "Voice, Strings, and Jazz" featuring the Shrine of the Ages Choir, NAU Chamber Orchestra, and Jazz Band I Conducted by Flagstaff’s gem, Edith Copley Sunday, Sept.30 @ 3:00 pm in Ardrey Auditorium on the NAU Campus Tickets available at the door or in advance by calling 523-5661 A special tour of interest to Flagstaff homeowners or future Flagstaff homeowners will be on Saturday: Flagstaff Solar Home Tour 9 a.m. – 1 p.m., Saturday Willow Bend Environmental Education Center, 703 E. Sawmill Road Pick up maps from Willow Bend and explore Flagstaff solar homes at your own pace. Talk to homeowners and experts about how this technology works. Hart Prairie Guided Nature Walk Saturday, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., Meet at Fort Valley Plaza Shopping Center, SW Corner Fall in Hart Prairie will make you fall in love with the area’s aspens, hummingbirds, wildflowers and rich history. Bring sturdy shoes, sun protection and water. No pets please!   Flagstaff Pulliam Airport Open House Saturday, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m., Pulliam Airport Join the crew at the Flagstaff airport to see various aircraft and the runway expansion project. Pilots will be available to discuss the theory of flight! Mountain Line bus service will be offering free trips to and from the airport from the Beulah bus stop near Wal-Mart. Science Day at Museum of Northern Arizona Sunday, 1 – 5 p.m., at MNA, Hwy 180, 3 miles north of downtown Flagstaff View MNA’s new exhibit Therizinosaur: Mystery of the Sickle Claw Dinosaur. Interpretive tours by docents from 1 – 3 p.m. Paleozoic Undersea Adventure puppet show at 2 and 4 p.m. These four events are a small part of the <a title="Blog about Flagstaff Festival of Science" href="public/item/183869" target="_blank">continuing ten-day Flagstaff Festival of Science</a>, which is filling the weekend with activities for children and adults alike.
