This year’s Flagstaff Solar and Wind Energy Tour takes the theme: “Living with the Sun and Wind AZ Style.” The self-guided tour on Saturday will demonstrate available renewable energy choices such as passive solar, solar photovoltaic, solar hot water and wind energy. Stop by Willow Bend Environmental Education Center at 703 E. Sawmill Road to pick up a map of the open houses in and around Flagstaff. The tour opens at 9 a.m. and will finish at 3 p.m. -- go at your own schedule within that time frame.

The tour offers you an opportunity to tour Flagstaff homes and buildings which are using renewable energy technologies. At each stop, you’ll have the chance to speak with homeowners, building managers and other experts. You’ll learn how solar and wind technology works, what it costs, and why it makes sense for your Flagstaff home.

The tour will showcase a several homes and buildings, including Arizona’s first LEED Platinum certified home and Oars Inc.’s ground-mounted-solar-photovoltaic system. The tour also explores passive and active solar technologies. Additionally, at each tour location an expert will be on hand to discuss the renewable energy systems at that Flagstaff home or commercial site.

To learn more about Flagstaff’s “Sustainability at Home” program, including an upcoming holiday lights swap program and hits for re-cycling those ever-present plastic bags that just keep turning up around the house, visit the City of Flagstaff website.

It should be a great weekend to be outdoors in Flagstaff. I was visiting a home in the Timberline neighborhood this morning – Northeast of Flagtaff – and the aspens on the mountains are beautiful from that angle.

For a night out, Frame 312 is playing at Theatrikos in downtown Flagstaff. See a clip of the play on YouTube.

Have a great weekend in Flagstaff!
