Things to Do in Flagstaff This Weekend!

Hikes, horses, music, dance and comedy -- what a great place to live!
Arizona Snowbowl
Atop the Arizona Snowbowl Skyride

Another busy summer weekend is ahead for Flagstaff. Kick-off the weekend by mingling downtown at Heritage Square on Friday night and then catching the outdoor movie at dusk. Or, head over to NAU for the last weekend of the Town and Gown performance of the summer: The Odd Couple. (I got to see the Odd Couple last weekend, it was great!) Or, head up to the Coconino Center for the Arts and catch the dance performance by The Isolated Incident Performance Group beginning at 7:30 p.m.

A truly classy horse show will happen Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Posse arena of the Ft. Tuthill County Park. The Southwest Pine Classic Horse Show features show horses of the American Saddlebred Association. Events begin in the morning each day and continue throughout the day.

Snowbowl Ranger Talks are available from 10:00 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, at the top of the scenic sky ride of the Arizona Snowbowl. Talks are sponsored by the National Park Service/US Forest Service Interpretive Partnership program and offer information about the natural surroundings, geology and history of the San Francisco Peaks.

Another great Flagstaff area interpretative hike will be lead by my friends Steve and Lois Hirst, on Saturday, beginning at 9 a.m. Estimated hiking time until noon. Hike to the rim of a volcano with Walker Lake in its crater. Spectacular views of the San Francisco Peaks, the Painted Desert, and the distant Grand Canyon. Difficulty: moderate. Group limit: 15. No dogs, please. 928-527-8222 for reservations.  Meet at the intersection of FR 151 and Highway 180, just past MP 235. Here’s the flyer for the hike.

Sunday evening, enjoy a free concert by members of the Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra at a beautiful venue – Lowell Observatory. Performance begins at 5:30 p.m. and will last about 60 minutes.

Whatever you do in Flagstaff this weekend – enjoy!
