Flagstaff’s own Theatrikos Theatre Company has a wonderful season coming up. Now is the time to buy season tickets so you won’t miss a single one of the great plays offered at the Doris White Community Playhouse in downtown Flagstaff: Brighton Beach Memoirs (by Neil Simon) – this wonderful coming-of-age story was awarded the New York Critics’ Circle Award for Best Play. The semi-autobiographical comedy follows a Russian-Jewish teenager as he struggles with adolescent angst. I had the fortune to see this play in Chicago years ago and know that it is wonderfully entertaining. The Comedy of Errors (by William Shakespeare) – Have you ever wondered where that saying comes from? A wacky tale of two sets of identical twins, each set having been separated from his other half since early childhood. Years later, all four young men end up in the same town – and the comedy of errors begins! Think: mistaken identity, wrongful beatings, and accusations of madness and demonic possession! Expecting Isabel (by Lisa Loomer) - an award-winning comedy which follows the adventures of Miranda & Nick, an apparently perfect, late-thirties couple who find that they now very much want a child. Unable to conceive, they embark on a hilarious & heartwarming journey, plowing through a maze of alternate solutions. Enlightenment (by local Flagstaff playwright Warren Doody) – a World Premiere play right here in Flagstaff! This is a romantic comedy that sorts through many challenges of modern-day relationships, while also speaking to the downsides and upsides of 21st Century technology. Vince, a thirty-something fellow, is about to marry for the first time when he is unexpectedly thrust into a soul-searching journey of his past. FRAME 312 – (by Keith Reddin) – a contemporary political mystery based on an intriguing premise: What if someone kept a copy of the original Zapruder film of the Jack Kennedy assassination, the one including frame 312, a missing frame that shows the second bullet hitting the President? This conspiracy mystery moves around in time from 1963 to the present. Miracle on 34th Street (Adapted by Will Severin, Patricia DiBenetto Snyder & John Vreeke, from the novel by Valentin Davies) – the magic of Christmas is threatened in this perennial holiday favorite. Miracle on 34th Street tells the story of a guy named Kris Kringle, who is hired by Macy’s to play Santa Claus for the famous Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. But when Kringle contends that he is, in fact, the real Santa, fellow employees do not accept this and plan to ruin him. This sounds like a terrific season!
