In contrast to the process of buying a Flagstaff home, where you have access to a comprehensive (or nearly comprehensive) list of homes for sale on the Northern Arizona Multiple-Listing-Service, there is no central directory of all homes for rent in Flagstaff. Property managers at Flagstaff apartment complexes deal in their exclusive access to those buildings. That leaves you, as the potential renter, traveling on your own from complex to complex to find the right place. Not that there are so many apartment complexes in Flagstaff – three of the major ones have been converted to condominiums in the last two years. (One of those, however, is back in the rental business to some extent because their sales have lagged expectations.) You can see a fairly complete list of these apartment complexes at Rentals.com. (But don’t rely on that site for anything else you may want to rent in Flagstaff.) Townhomes, condos, and single family homes available for lease are generally managed by a handful of Flagstaff property managers, or by the owners themselves. Each property manager maintains its own list of properties. So, again, you cannot get a complete picture by visiting one property management firm. A list of those who manage rental properties full time is on my website – Renting in Flagstaff. I strongly suggest that you check the online listings for Craig's List and the Arizona Daily Sun. Although Craig’s List still groups Flagstaff rentals with Sedona, which can be confusing, the number of owner-managed properties being posted there has sky-rocketed in the last year. Since Craig’s List is free, savvy owners who manage their own properties are likely to give it a try first before popping out the $100 for eight days that is charged by the Arizona Daily Sun.
