Great Weekend Things To Do in Flagstaff!

Summer Openings and Lots of Fun in and around Flagstaff AZ!

It’s that time again – First Friday ArtWalk in Flagstaff, and it should be a beautiful evening for it. (Bring a jacket for sundown!) The art locations have expanded from Flagstaff’s historic downtown and Southside neighborhoods to the East Side. Don’t miss the Eastside Ten at 2020 N. First Street.

For the more adventuresome on Friday night, National Park Service Ranger Joanna Bleil will lead a fascinating discussion about Creepy Crawlies at the Bonito Campground from 8:00 PM- 8:45 PM.  FREE!  (Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument entrance.)

Play it Again, Sam opens at Theatrikos Theatre Company Friday night. The play, by Woody Allen, directed by Lisa Krum, tells the story of a mild-mannered film critic who is dumped by his wife. His hero, the tough guy character played by Humphrey Bogart, begins showing up to offer him advice.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the National Park Service and U.S. Forest Service Interpretive Partnership sponsors Snowbowl Ranger Talks in conjunction with skyrides at the Arizona Snowbowl. Adults $12, juniors (8-12), seniors (65-69) $8, 70 and older, 7 and younger, birthdays free.  10:00 AM- 4:00 PM

Friday night at dusk, enjoy Akeelah & the Bee on Heritage Square as part of the Flagstaff Downtown Business Alliance Movies on the Square series. Prior to the show, Canyon Movement Company will perform at Heritage Square.

Saturday:

Arts and Crafts Show at The Peaks, 3150 N. Winding Brook Road, (off Ft. Valley Road), Saturday, from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm. All crafter entry fees and food sales to benefit Operation Shoebox, sending our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan personal care packages.

Bloomington Gold Tours will bring 55 years of Corvette history to Downtown Flagstaff on Saturday, June 7th from 10am-2pm. View six generations of America’s favorite sports car. Admission is free

Summer Concert at The Arboretum: 5:30-7 p.m. Singer/songwriter Julie Gribble will perform her brand of Americana music at The Arboretum for the 2008 summer concert series Americana and the Great Beyond. The Arboretum at Flagstaff, 4001 S. Woody Mountain Road. $10 for members, $12 for non-members. 

Secrets of the Osprey at the Dairy Springs Campground amphitheater. 8-8:45 p.m.
John Westerlund, NPS interpretive ranger, will discuss one of Arizona's two fish-eating raptors, the osprey, often called the "fish eagle."


Sunday:

Flagstaff Community Market opens its season Sunday morning just south of the railroad tracks on Phoenix Avenue in downtown Flagstaff.   The Flagstaff Community Market is a regional producers market that operates for growers and producers of agricultural and related products. Come relax and learn in a fun community environment. 8 a.m. to noon.

Red Mountain Hike, Sunday, 9:00 a.m. USFS/NPS Rangers Steve and Lois Hirst and Bill and Ellen Wade will lead this hike into the heart of a volcano. Learn about volcanism, ecology, and ancient and modern peoples. Bring water and wear sturdy shoes. Difficulty: moderate. 527-8222

Hart Prairie Nature Walk at 10:00 a.m. The ninety-minute walk offers the opportunity to learn more about birds, wildflowers, forest ecology, and The Nature Conservancy ’s work across the region. Meet at the Fort Valley Plaza Shopping Center, 1000 N. Humphreys Street, at the southwest corner by the guardrail, at 10:00 a.m. Wear sturdy shoes and sun protection. Due to the ecologically sensitive area, please, no pets. The Nature Conservancy’s 245-acre Hart Prairie Preserve is a truly unique landscape at the base of the magnificent San Francisco Peaks.

Volcanoes of Northern Arizona, Bonito Campground amphitheater. 8-8:45 p.m. Join NPS park geologist Dr. Sarah Hanson for her extraordinary photographic look and discussion of volcanoes of the San Francisco volcanic field. Sponsored by the NPS/USFS Interpretive Partnership Program.
