Lara St. John and Willie Nelson Headline Flagstaff's Weekend

FSO promises another great performance in Flagstaff Friday night, with Willie and Bobbie Nelson coming on Saturday

The place to be in Flagstaff Friday and Saturday night is Ardrey Auditorium on the Northern Arizona University campus. It may be too late to get tickets for either of these great events, but read on to learn how to try to find them and also about other things to do in Flagstaff this weekend.

Friday night the competition for the Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra’s new maestro continues with the third of four guest conductors this season. Darryl One will conduct a program including modern and classical music and a performance by special guest and violin virtuoso Lara St. John. You can learn more about Ms. St. John at her Web site. Videos of Lara St. John performances are on YouTube: High Flying Bach 2007, Czardas Caprice, Highwire Bach, and Big Apple Allegro. Darryl One will present a pre-concert lecture at 6:30 p.m. and the concert begins promptly at 7:30 p.m. For tickets, contact Ticketmaster or call (888) 520-7214.

Willie and Bobbie Nelson will rock Ardrey Saturday night with a stop of their “On the Road Again” countrywide tour.   Tickets were $55 if reserved in advance and the concert appears to be sold out.  Call 928-523-5661 to try to get tickets now. If you have them, there is an ad on Craig’s List trying to buy a pair!

For a little less excitement, but still great entertainment, on Friday and Saturday nights, and Sunday afternoon, Theatrikos’ performances of MacBeth continue. Visit Theatrikos Theatre Company website for ticket info.

There are a variety of lectures and sporting events on the NAU campus this weekend, including basketball with NAU’s women meeting Montana State Think Pink, with NAU's Womens' BasketballFriday night at  6:35 PM and Montana on Sunday afternoon beginning at 12:05 p.m. NAU women’s basketball invite our community to “Think Pink” sponsored by the Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Association. The initiative is a global, unified effort to raise awareness of breast cancer. Anyone wearing a pink shirt, hat or ribbon will receive free general admission on Friday night.

For an early evening Saturday activity, try Lowell Observatory, where you’ll be able to join the Coconino Astronomical Society for a presentation on "Progress in Building the Discovery Channel Telescope and Plans for Its Scientific Use." The meeting and lecture begin at 5:45 and, with refreshments, will end at 7 p.m.  At that time, sky conditions permitting, observation opportunities will be available for enjoyment. For information on the meeting, click here.

With a fresh coat of snow, the skiers and snowboarders will again have a fabulous weekend at Arizona Snowbowl, and the snow play areas, no doubt, will be busy. Watch the parking – don’t walk from Highway 180! Click here for more information on snow play in Flagstaff.

Flagstaff Winterfest -- the month-long celebration of winter in Arizona's mountains -- continues this weekend. For a list of activities this weekend that are associated with the Chamber of Commerce-sponsored winter celebration, click here

While I’m visiting the grandkids this weekend, Team Heitland at RE/MAX Peak Properties will be available to show you Flagstaff real estate. Give us a call or send us a note to see any Flagstaff home for sale. (Don’t call me for our season tickets to FSO – a friend already has them: boo-hoo!)
