Pianist Chu-Fang Huang Will Perform Friday |
|
The excitement of choosing the next Artistic Director and Conductor for our wonderful Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra continues this Friday. Few communities the size of Flagstaff enjoy a symphony orchestra of the quality and caliber of the Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra, which is nationally known as the premier regional symphony. This Friday, the FSO will perform under the direction of guest conductor Peter Jaffe and will feature special guest pianist Chu-Fang Huang. During 2007-2008 FSO season, the four finalists for the Artistic Director and Conductor position will each conduct before the Flagstaff audience. One criticism I heard following the last concert, which was beautifully conducted by candidate Elizabeth Schulze, was that the program was “too mixed,” meaning a combination of classical and modern selections. If the audience does not like the selections, don’t blame the candidates. The repertoire for each concert was set by out-going Artistic Director Randall Craig Fleischer. The “mixture” in each concert is designed to test the candidate’s ability to adapt and lead a variety of music. So, for those who like their music consistent within concerts, you’ll have to wait until next year. This Friday's performance will include selections from George Gershwin's Porgy and Bess and more classical pieces from Maurice Ravel and Modest Mussorgsky. Concerts are often fully sold out, so reserve your tickets in advance. Performances are at Northern Arizona University’s Ardrey Auditorium, starting at 7:30 p.m. Team Heitland at RE/MAX Peak Properties is a proud supporter of FSO – I’ll see you there Friday! |
