Storm Obscures Flagstaff Mountain Views Our County Supervisor forwarded this news from the County’s Public Works Department this afternoon:
Public Works staff just had a teleconference with the National Weather Service. The area is currently getting 1 to 1.5 inches of snow per hour. Blizzard conditions will pick up starting at 5:00 p.m. and last until 1:00 a.m. Tuesday morning. At that time, snowfall will increase to 2-3 inches per hour accompanied by winds up to 30 to 40 mph. Total snow accumulation from this winter storm is expected to be 18-28 inches.
Later this week, snowfall will begin again Thursday evening and last into Saturday with expected snow accumulation of another 3-6 inches. (From another source: It will be sunny Wednesday, as usual in Flagstaff when it's not snowing.)
Also, Arizona Department of Transportation reports that Interstate 17 northbound is closed at the scenic over look (MP 313) due to a traffic accident.
We have been notified that two of our meetings today have been cancelled due to weather, so if you have meetings or appointments today or tomorrow, you should probably check to see if they’re still on before you head out in to the storm.
That's the end of the message from Coconino County, but I've been following the weather-related news on the Flagstaff newspaper's website, where there is a long-list of cancellations and warnings. For the first time in my memory, snowplows will not be hitting the Flagstaff neighborhoods during the night because they will be needed to keep main streets open. |
