Things to Do in Flagstaff This Weekend!

This weekend marks the cusp of January/February and there are plenty of things to do around Flagstaff to celebrate winter

This is the opening weekend for Theatrikos’ performance of Brighton Beach Memoirs. This also marks the debut of the 2009 season of Flagstaff community theatre presented by Theatrikos. Read about all the upcoming plays.

On Saturday, buy an all day ticket at the Flagstaff Nordic Center and enjoy the 10-K Classic Ski Race. The Flagstaff Nordic Center is located 15 miles north of Flagstaff on Highway 180 past the turn for the Arizona Snowbowl. Events begin at 8:30 a.m.

Saturday would be a great time to experience a Wupatki Discovery Hike. The Wupatiki National Monument is at an elevation of 4,000 ft. and, thus, much warmer than Flagstaff at 7000 ft or the Nordic Center at 8000 feet. (The hike will be less aerobic that classic Nordic skiing, however.) Group size is limited to 14 participants so please call for a reservation here:  928- 679-2365. The guided hike begins at 9 a.m. Entrance to the Monument requires a park pass.

For indoor adventurers, there are three exciting special exhibits at the Museum of Northern Arizona, including I Am the Grand Canyon – the story of the Havasupai people, and the great The with some photographs that have never before been displayed. The museum is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Otra Voz, an exhibit of Hispanic culture, continues at the Coconino Center for the Arts, which is just down the road from the Museum of Northern Arizona. The exhibit if open Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and closed Sunday and Monday. I blogged about the exhibit at its opening a few weeks ago: about Otra Voz.
