Tickets are still available for one the most enjoyable concerts of the Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra season – the Friday Pops Concert. This year, we’ll have both a guest conductor, Arthur Post of the Portland Symphony, and a guest vocalist, Hugh Panaro (pictured to the left). The performance will include selections from Andrew Lloyd Webber, Rodgers and Hammerstein, Lerner and Lowe, Cole Porter, Stephen Sondheim and many others. The performance begins at 7:30 p.m. Friday night at Ardrey Auditorium on the Northern Arizona University campus. Saturday night, join Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers for another style of performance at the Orpheum Theatre in downtown Flagstaff. Sponsored by Greenhouse Productions. Doors open at 7 p.m. with performance beginning at 8 p.m. For a quieter taste and some classical music, the NAU School of Music Horizon Concert Series offers Darek Samol, saxophone; Ewa Ruszala, piano on Saturday night. Works by Karol Szymanowski, Frydreryk Francyszek Chopin and and the world premiere of a new piece by Marek Jasinski. Ashurst Auditorium, 7:30 p.m. Call 928/523-5661 for tickets. The weather is predicted to be wet, so for a day-time activity of Saturday, I suggest you join the Flagstaff Skating Club for a free lesson at the Jay Lively Activity Center. Or, put on your rain gear and waterproof boots and go for a hike! Whatever you do in Flagstaff this weekend, have a great time! I’m headed to Scottsdale on Saturday morning (after that FSO concert Friday night) to visit some old friends who are in town from my old home in Chicago. If you need real estate help over the weekend, my buddy Tina Sutton will be covering here in Flagstaff for me, and you can always send me an email or give me a buzz and I’ll get back to you when I have a break from my weekend fun. |
