One of the wonders of Flagstaff will be presented Friday night, with an encore Sunday afternoon. Master Chorale of Flagstaff will present its annual Christmas in the Mountains, a concert of familiar holiday music, featuring the 90-voice Master Chorale, the Harold M. Harter Memorial Handbell Choir, Dolce Cantando of the Children’s Chorale of Flagstaff, and a full orchestra. Performances Friday night at 7:30 pm and Sunday at 3:00 pm in Ardrey Auditorium on the campus of Northern Arizona University. Friday and Saturday, enjoy Canyon Movement Company’s fifth annual Nutcracker Suite in Modern Bare Feet – a 21st Century interpretation of the holiday classic. New this year are tap dancing soldiers, new characters in the party scene including servers and a cat and mouse, enhanced contemporary costumes, additional choreographers with new choreography, a cast of over 80 dancers, and a street performing scene with dibolos (large Chinese yo-yo’s thrown with a string), lock and pop dancing, free-hand stilts, tap dancing, and gymnastics. Performances are Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m., and a Saturday matinee at 2:00 p.m. at NAU’s Clifford E. White Theater. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children and students. On Saturday night, bundle up and head to downtown Flagstaff for the Northern Lights Holiday Parade beginning at 6:00 p.m.
The Coconino Center for the Arts will be the site of the annual Navajo Rug Auction on Saturday with preview beginning at 10:00 a.m. and the auction kicking off at 4:00 p.m. Hundreds of gorgeous, handmade, authentic Navajo weavings will go on the auction block and Navajo tacos and frybread will be on sale.

Indoor programs are available at Lowell Observatory during the winter. Current programs focus on meteor showers such as the upcoming Geminids. Telescope viewing of various celestial objects is included in the price of admission.
Holiday tours continue at Riordan Mansion State Park and on Saturday morning, there will be a special visitor: Santa! The Mansion is festively decorated in turn-of-the-century style with wreaths, garlands, greenery, and a towering fir tree trimmed with old-fashioned ornaments. Sunday night, you’ll find the 27th Annual Luminaria Celebration in Flagstaff’s Coconino Estates neighborhood. Enjoy thousands of candles, a living nativity scene, and brightly decorated homes as you drive or walk through. 5:30-9:00 p.m.
Sunday afternoon, actors from Theatrikos and members of the Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra team up for Stories to Life: A Sunday Series of Musical Storytelling. This week’s program is entitled “The Winter Season”, in anticipation of the solstice. At the main downtown library beginning at 4:00 p.m. to about 5:30 p.m. Free.
