Flagstaff sits smack-dap in the liberal wing of Arizona's Congressional District 1 -- what will be a highly-contested seat in this Fall's National Election. The real decision may be in September, not November, when Democrats and Republicans choose their candidates to run for this open seat. This Saturday, the American Association of University Women and the League of Women Voters will sponsor forums for to introduce the primary candidates of both parties to Flagstaff area voters. Each candidate will have the opportunity to make statements and the public may submit written questions to be answered by all candidates. Here is the schedule: 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Democrat Candidates 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. Republican Candidates The events take place in the heart of downtown Flagstaff at the historic Flagstaff Federated Church, 400 W. Aspen (just west of the Public Library). In the Republican race, Sydney Hay has already begun heavy media advertising attacking Democratic nominee, Ann Kirkpatrick, who has raised more $$ than anyone. But Northern Arizona University pollster, Fred Solop, says Howard Shanker is the Democratic candidate to watch in this race. Go see for yourself on Saturday! |
