The Arizona Cardinals professional football team starts their practice for the season today at the fields of Northern Arizona University. Even if you are not a football fan, if you live in Flagstaff, you need to see this once! You probably know a football fan! Take them along and see it through their eyes – my son-in-law loved it during one of his visits and so I loved it, too! After the practices end, the players make themselves available for autographs. Totally free! For a complete schedule of practice days and times, including every day this weekend, visit the Arizona Daily Sun’s online Cardinals Camp Report. Friday night, visit Heritage Square in downtown Flagstaff for an evening of fun, beginning with music by Halau Hula Napuaokalei'lma at 6 p.m. and the movie, Surf’s Up, at dusk. It will probably rain mid-day on Saturday because the Democrats are having their annual Monsoon Picnic at the County Fairgrounds, Maricopa Ramada. If you’d like to meet some local candidates and find out what the Coconino County Democratic Party is up to, show up by 11 a.m. for meet and greet. Bring a side or desert to share. (The official meeting starts at 10:00 for all Democratic P.C.’s) Obama merchandise will be available for purchase. Lowell Observatory will host a special evening presentation on Saturday night beginning at 5:30 p.m. and lasting until 10:00 p.m. Telescopes will be available for viewing throughout the Lowell campus. At 7 p.m., Lowell docent Howard Israel will speak on the topic Astronomy on the Cheap. If you have an aspiring astronomer living with you, don’t miss it! Sunday morning, don’t forget the Flagstaff Community Market, for fun, to meet friends, and to buy fresh food products from local growers. South of the tracks in the City parking lot of Phoenix Avenue, beginning at 8 a.m., until noon.
