Wow! What a weekend is coming up in Flagstaff! We start this Flagstaff weekend with a bang on Friday night when the Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra opens its season. FSO will host Chris Brubeck on trombone. The first competing guest conductor, Elizabeth Schulze will lead the orchestra. FSO is hosting four candidates for Music Director this season. Audience surveys collected from those who attend the concerts will be considered in the final selection. Friday, 7:30 p.m. at Audrey Auditorium on the NAU campus. Also, starting Friday, Theatrikos Theatre Company runs the Tony-Award-Winning play, Proof. Opening performance is Friday at 7 p.m. and the play continues each Friday and Saturday through October 6. All events are centered at Wheeler Park across from Flagstaff City Hall on Aspen Street. Aspen Street will be closed on Saturday during parade and bed race and on Sunday during the bed race.
Also, Saturday and Sunday: Flagstaff Artists’ Coalition Annual Open Studios Tour Tour artists’ studios and galleries throughout the greater Flagstaff area from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with some studios open later. At Pine Mountain Amphitheater, starting Friday at 1 p.m. and running through Sunday, a Bluegrass Music Festival -- Pickin' In the Pines. After the tour and races on Saturday night, stop in for some rock music and a little politics at the Mogollon Brewing Company where there will a fund-raiser for Howard Shanker – one of the candidates running for the Congressional seat about to be vacated by Rick Renzi. 6:30 p.m. on Agassiz Street between Aspen and Route 66. Advance ticket purchase suggested. For something on the more serious side of art on Saturday night, go to the Coconino Center for the Arts at 2300 N. Ft. Valley Road at 6:30 p.m. for a film entitled Date Rape and a performance by The P.E.A.C.E. Project. The P.E.A.C.E. Project is a traveling theatre troupe of over twenty-five young people from local high schools. The effort is sponsored by the Northland Family Help Center. Have a great weekend of fun in Flagstaff.
